At Intact Insurance, inclusion means showing up for our people - especially when it matters most. Since 2022, we’ve taken a proactive, compassionate approach to supporting our people affected by domestic abuse. We recognise the critical role the workplace can play in safety, wellbeing, and empowerment.
In December 2025, this work was recognised nationally when we won Gold at the Insurance Times Awards for our domestic abuse initiative — a powerful endorsement of the meaningful impact we’re making across our business and the wider industry.
Domestic abuse surged during the pandemic, and we saw an urgent need to respond. What began as a policy has evolved into a comprehensive support framework that is reshaping culture and strengthening trust.
We introduced a dedicated domestic abuse policy, an employee awareness toolkit, and a network of 21 Domestic Abuse Awareness Champions (DAACs) across our UK-based colleagues. These champions have been professionally trained by Sharon Livermore MBE and Domestic Abuse Education. The training equips our champions to be able to offer confidential, compassionate support to our people.
Our approach ensures inclusivity for LGBTQIA+ colleagues, male survivors, and people from culturally diverse communities. Across all offices, our colleagues can now access support discreetly and confidently, supported by sensitive signposting, clear contact information and ongoing communications to keep support pathways visible.
More than 170 of our leaders and HR advisors have completed specialist training in recognising and responding to domestic abuse. This training ensures that when a colleague reaches out, they are met with empathy, consistency, and care — often at a pivotal moment.
Our work has been guided by four priorities:
Progress has been strong across all areas. Disclosures have risen from one or two per year in 2023 to nearly 10 — a clear sign that colleagues feel safer and more empowered to seek help.
DAACs meet bi-monthly to share insights and continually refine our response, while more employees are accessing workshops, resources, and one-to-one support. Externally, our toolkit is helping our network of brokers and industry partners strengthen their own approaches, widening our impact and contributing to sector-wide change.
Our Gold Insurance Times Award in 2025 marks a significant milestone — recognition that our approach is not only compassionate, but industry leading.
Our ambition continues to grow. We are preparing new awareness events to help our colleagues recognise signs of abuse and understand support available to them. We're also exploring ways to compassionately signpost help for potential perpetrators, emphasising prevention while remaining inclusive and non-judgemental.
We are introducing additional resources, providing access to dedicated support. We are working closely with our new Occupational Health provider who are trained in:
We'll continue strengthening and personalising our support offering.
Our goal is clear: to make domestic abuse support a standard part of workplace wellbeing, not the exception. Through continued action, collaboration and empathy — and now, as a Gold Insurance Times Award winner — we’re proud to lead the way in shaping a safer, more inclusive industry for everyone.
At Intact Insurance, inclusion means creating a workplace where people feel safe, supported, and empowered — especially during life’s most difficult moments. With over 2.3 million people affected by domestic abuse each year in the UK, we know the workplace can be a vital source of protection and care. That’s why we’ve taken a proactive, people-first approach: embedding specialist training, confidential support, and compassionate policies across our business. This isn’t just about doing the right thing — it’s about building a culture of trust and belonging, where every colleague knows they’re not alone.
