This month, we're taking the time to recognise 13 of our Risk Consulting colleagues who have recently passed the CFPA Europe Diploma in Fire Prevention – Technical Cycle.
This respected qualification deepens knowledge across fire science, human behaviour in fire, prevention strategies, and risk assessment. It's also an important marker of technical capability within our discipline.
With many members across our Risk Consulting team already holding this credential, this added success is strengthening the expertise of the whole function further. This continued development reinforces our technical depth and supports our ability to deliver high‑quality, informed fire‑related risk management guidance to our brokers and customers.
With more of our colleagues now qualified at this advanced level, brokers can benefit from a deeper pool of technical evidence and analysis to support risk presentations — especially for complex or fire‑exposed risks.
Enhanced capability means we can provide sharper, more actionable recommendations that help customers understand where to invest, how to prioritise improvements, and how to reduce interruption potential.
Our fire‑prevention expertise helps ensure that underwriting decisions are backed by high‑quality technical understanding. This supports smoother placement, more confident discussions, and a shared understanding of risk quality.
Fire remains one of the largest drivers of major property losses. Better insight means better prevention — helping to protect your customers’ people, operations and finances.
A defining feature of this achievement has been the team’s collaborative approach. Colleagues shared revision materials, explained complex concepts to one another, and worked through case studies together — all while managing busy workloads.
This reflects two of our core values in action:
Committing to high standards, continuous learning and technical development.
Supporting one another and creating an environment where everyone succeeds.
These values underpin how we work with each other internally and — crucially — how we engage with brokers and customers in the market.
With this additional expertise in place, our Risk Consulting team is even better positioned to support fire‑related risk management across a wide range of industries.
Please join us in congratulating our colleagues who achieved the diploma:
Allan Sysum, Cherry Briggs, David Verrall, Jeff Partridge, Laurence Carter, Pat Dee, Bright Wansaksri, Sam Lang, Sarah Hughes, Stephen Mowbray, Steve Watts, Steve Sandalls and Stuart Wood.
Their expertise strengthens our ability to help you navigate complex risks, deliver better outcomes for clients, and contribute to safer and more resilient businesses.
Our ambition as Intact Insurance is to be recognised for our technical knowledge and ability to provide pragmatic solutions to our client’s risk management challenges. Therefore, continuous professional development is critical for us to be able to achieve this. It’s wonderful to see so many of the team succeed in gaining the diploma and further underlining the strength in depth we have within risk consulting to support our clients across our commercial and speciality lines businesses. Knowing how much work went into studying alongside the day job I am immensely proud of what’s been achieved by everyone.
Andy Jones, Risk Consulting Director at Intact Insurance
After starting out in underwriting in 1993 and later moving into broking, the last three years in risk consulting have felt like the piece of the puzzle that ties it all together. Moving into the technical side has been a challenge I’ve really enjoyed. Building that capability through the NEBOSH General Certificate, Intact Insurance UK's Multi-Discipline Training Programme, and now completing the CFPA-E Diploma has given me a fresh perspective on the profession I’ve spent my career in. I’m genuinely grateful to be part of the Intact team that invests so heavily in professional development. Feeling positive about the future and committed to delivering high-quality risk consulting work for our clients.
