We're delighted to announce that Carolyn Mackenzie, Vice President of Complex Claims at Intact Insurance, has been named Claims Professional of the Year at the Women in Insurance Awards 2026.
The award recognises Carolyn's outstanding leadership, technical expertise and commitment to developing the next generation of claims professionals, alongside her significant contribution to the wider insurance industry.
Carolyn has dedicated more than three decades to claims, building a career in large and complex claims management and earning a reputation for technical excellence and customer-focused leadership. Since joining Intact Insurance in 2012, her remit has expanded significantly. Carolyn now oversees more than 200 claims specialists, managing approximately £4 billion of reserves across multiple lines of business and jurisdictions.
Over the past year, Carolyn has played a pivotal role in strengthening Intact Insurance's Complex and Specialty Claims proposition. Her team has expanded its in-house expertise through the addition of chartered loss adjusters, inspectors, a forensic accountant, and a team of specialist lawyers, further enhancing the support available to customers when they need it most.
A major milestone has been the successful integration of our European claims teams. This has helped to create a more connected approach that enables greater collaboration, knowledge sharing, and consistency of service across markets.
As well as driving innovation and performance, Carolyn is passionate about creating an inclusive culture where colleagues can thrive. Through mentoring, professional development programmes and her advocacy for women working in technical roles, she has helped create opportunities for others to build successful careers in claims.
Beyond Intact Insurance, Carolyn continues to make a valuable contribution to the insurance profession. A Chartered Insurer and Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII), she has spent eight years serving on the CII Claims Community Board. This includes as Deputy Chair, while also contributing industry insight through working groups, publications, and speaking opportunities.
Claims is a profession I love because of it's very human impact. I'm incredibly proud of the collaborative, inclusive culture we've created, where people can be themselves, continue to develop and deliver great outcomes for customers. Receiving this award is a wonderful recognition of the talented teams I've had the privilege to work alongside.
